Okay. So after many years of hearing about this anime and how the infamous Be Invoked more or less solidified the Giant God into anime history, I can see why Hidaeki Anno based Neon Genesis Evangelion on Ideon.
The show itself in its 39 episodes does have pacing issues especially when getting started but some of the mid to later episode become amazing especially when the nature of the Ide becomes a bit more clear and in some fan theories, more sinister.
The idea that this Eldritch Horror of a Super Robot being able to rip a galaxy in two sounds like an exaggeration within the show's opening but anyone who has seen the series or played him in his only 2 appearances in Super Robot Wars will know, especially in Alpha 3, just how justified these claims are.
I hear Yoshiyuki Tomino wants to do a remake and man would I love to work with the man to do just that. Maybe fic the pacing issues and scar more children in the process. The amount of death and depression with the futility and fatalistic view point of the latter episodes really did mark this series as the heavy weight supreme of the Kill Em All trope.
My main issue with bringing this series to newer audiences is whether or not changes should or rather should not be made to the character designs as well as Ideon as I feel the Giant God looks amazing as is. And any attempt I have seen to modernize the design really veers it away as the Super Robot it was meant to be. Also, Cosmo Yuki would not be the same without his afro and the many jokes people have made over the canon size of such.
